Adato Energia Oy’s management team and board of directors embarked on the development of a new strategy. The process began with an analysis of the operating environment and active involvement of key stakeholders. External facilitation was sought for the next phase of the strategy process, where the collected insights were used to build a shared understanding between the board and the leadership team about potential growth opportunities for the upcoming strategy period.
Collaboration and Shared Understanding as the Foundation
The early stages of a strategy process often determine its ultimate success. That’s why we invested time in working together and preparing workshops thoroughly. It was essential that all the key stakeholders understood the signals emerging from the operating environment and aligned on the strategic priorities.
Facilitating Adato’s strategy process involved several steps: preparatory work, ideation and definition of strategic themes and opportunities, clarifying and prioritizing these opportunities, and planning how to validate new, innovative initiatives.
We began by identifying strategic opportunities using background materials such as environmental analyses, research, and other relevant data. Based on these, the leadership team selected 2–5 strong and innovative strategic themes for the next strategy period. During the workshop, we reviewed different perspectives and prioritized opportunities in terms of growth and profitability, while considering the required investments.
Between sessions, the team refined these opportunities further, after which we reconvened to assess them from multiple angles:
- Potential of the theme
- Customer segments and market size
- Required capabilities
- Impact on competitiveness
The group voted and selected Adato’s most promising growth opportunities, then co-designed the validation phase.
Clear Steps Toward a New Strategy
After our collaboration, the strategy process continued: Adato’s leadership team validated the shortlisted growth opportunities and made the final strategic choices.
“Taskmill’s facilitation had a positive impact on the success of our strategy process. The participatory approach helped us have high-quality discussions about signals from the operating environment and ensured alignment on strategic priorities. Under Taskmill’s guidance, the ideation, clarification, and prioritization of strategic themes were handled efficiently, creating a strong foundation for future growth and success.”
