LähiTapiola is a mutual insurance company owned by its 1.6 million owner-customers, meaning that every policyholder is also an owner. LähiTapiola’s ambition is to be the best lifelong security partner for its owner-customers, providing the right level of protection for their health, finances and assets.
Since 2018, Taskmill has supported LähiTapiola in extensive and ambitious insurance business transformation initiatives across both life and non-life insurance. The collaboration has focused on ensuring the successful delivery of critical development initiatives and digital service renewals, enabling smooth and efficient development, and strengthening collaboration between business and technology.
Life Insurance Core System Renewal – Ambitious Goals, Experienced Professionals
LähiTapiola Life’s extensive core system renewal aims to significantly improve the customer experience and, through this, increase market share.
Taskmill has taken on several key product leadership roles within the programme, including Product Managers, Product Owners and requirements specialists. Taskmill’s experienced professionals have also played a significant role in designing and implementing the programme’s test automation architecture, enabling high-quality and efficient development across this large-scale transformation. Taskmill’s highly experienced experts have also strengthened the programme’s financial management and actuarial capabilities.
“The core system renewal is the most significant development initiative in the history of LähiTapiola Life. Taskmill’s expertise has been invaluable in an initiative where business and technology understanding, the ability to drive change, and knowledge of development best practices all need to come together. Taskmill has been a trusted partner whose experts quickly take ownership, get things moving and deliver results.”

Non-Life Insurance Transformation – Improving Speed and Transparency
The scale of the non-life insurance core system renewal is substantial: a portfolio of 200 systems is being completely renewed. The programme has already delivered significant results, but at this stage, its leadership recognised that the development operating model itself also needed to evolve.
The objectives were to strengthen collaboration with the business, shorten lead times, clarify roles and improve transparency. LähiTapiola also wanted to move away from a traditional client–supplier setup and strengthen cross-organisational development teams.
Taskmill’s experienced professionals went deep into the programme. Together with LähiTapiola, they analysed the existing ways of working, roles and responsibilities. Based on this analysis, the teams identified which practices should be harmonised and which new ways of working were needed.
Led by Taskmill’s experts, the new practices were tested in real-life development work together with LähiTapiola’s experts and teams. Taskmill also trained the entire programme organisation in the new operating model, ensuring a shared understanding of the ways of working and making them easy to apply in everyday work.
“Taskmill helped us harmonise the programme’s ways of working in a focused manner within a tight timeframe. We also became better equipped to implement the changes in practice. Taskmill’s experts understood our situation and quickly brought forward concrete solutions.”
