Sanoma Learning Nordic – structure and predictability in decision-making

Sanoma Learning’s Nordic leadership team has been working determinedly to clarify its decision-making processes. In spring 2025, the team realized that their development work had reached a point where external support could help refine and finalize the model. For this task, they invited Taskmill to assist. The goal of the collaboration was to clarify decision-making forums, roles, and practices so that both strategic and operational decision-making would better support the business. The work included a current-state analysis and documentation, development proposals, and concrete models to support implementation.

Insight and structure to support decision-making

One of the key objectives of the development work was to free up more time for the leadership team to focus on strategic decision-making, empower local operational teams, and ensure transparency and alignment in decision-making.

“Working with Taskmill was smooth and goal-oriented. They brought external perspective and challenged our thinking, while genuinely listening to our needs. The collaboration progressed in phases and remained well-managed throughout.”

– Mira Kuhanen, Commercial Director, Sanoma Pro

As a result of expert interviews, data analysis, and close dialogue, a concrete framework for the decision-making operating model was created, clearly defining, among other things:

  • the definition of strategic vs. operational decision-making in Sanoma’s context
  • decision-making forums, participants, roles, and responsibilities
  • decision-making authority limits and documentation practices
  • key development proposals and supporting tools

A decision-making model that supports leadership and reduces overlap

The proposed operating model for Sanoma Learning Nordic laid the foundation for more structured leadership and reduced overlapping. Strategic decisions can now be anticipated and prepared more effectively, allowing leadership to focus on long-term goals. At the same time, operational decisions can be made at the right level with clear boundaries, improving day-to-day efficiency.

“With the new model, decision-making now has clearer frameworks. The leadership team can focus on strategic direction, and teams have a stronger foundation for making operational decisions. Now it’s our turn to put the model into practice – to test how it supports us in everyday decision-making and what impact it ultimately has.”
