Sanoma Learning Nordic wanted to create a clearer and more predictable approach to decision-making. Taskmill helped refine a decision-making model that clarifies roles, responsibilities, and practices across both strategic and operational decision-making.
Sanoma Learning’s Nordic leadership team had been working to clarify how decisions are made across the organisation. By spring 2025, the work had reached a stage where the team saw value in an external perspective. Taskmill was brought in to help refine and finalise the model. For this task, they invited Taskmill to assist.
The goal was to clarify forums, roles, and practices for making decisions. Strategic and operational decisions needed to support the business more effectively.
The work included a current-state analysis, documentation, and development proposals. Taskmill also created practical tools to support the implementation of the new model.
Creating Structure for Strategic and Operational Decision-Making
One key objective was to give the leadership team more time to focus on strategic priorities. At the same time, local teams needed greater autonomy in operational decisions. Improving transparency and alignment across the organisation was another important goal.
“Working with Taskmill was smooth and goal-oriented. They brought external perspective and challenged our thinking, while genuinely listening to our needs. The collaboration progressed in phases and remained well-managed throughout.”

A Clear Decision-Making Model for Roles and Responsibilities
Based on expert interviews, analysis, and close collaboration, Taskmill created a clear decision-making framework. The model defines:
- strategic and operational decisions in Sanoma’s context
- forums, participants, roles, and responsibilities
- levels of authority and documentation practices
- key development recommendations and supporting tools
Clearer Structures for Effective Leadership
The new decision-making model laid the foundation for clearer leadership and helped reduce unnecessary overlap. Strategic decisions can be anticipated and prepared more effectively. This gives the leadership team more time to focus on long-term goals.
Operational decisions can be made at the right level and within clear boundaries. This helps make day-to-day decision-making more efficient.
More Time for Strategic Leadership
The new model clarifies the roles of strategic and operational decision-making. The leadership team can focus more on strategic direction, while operational decisions can be made at the appropriate level. Clearer structures also improve transparency, alignment, and predictability across the organisation.
“With the new model, decision-making now has clearer frameworks. The leadership team can focus on strategic direction, and teams have a stronger foundation for making operational decisions. Now it’s our turn to put the model into practice – to test how it supports us in everyday decision-making and what impact it ultimately has.”
